Westburn CAN (2016 - 2017)
In June 2016 I was approached by WHALE Arts Agency in Westerhailes, Edinburgh to engage in a sculpture commission for the Horticultural Hub strand of the Westburn CAN (Climate Action Network) project.
The focus of this project was to be increasing awareness of and action in relation to climate change, and promoting sustainability and recycling. The Horticultural Hub takes the form of an ongoing community garden project (known as 'The Grove') and the sculptures that I am building there in collboration with the community are intended to use recycled materials to create works which establish a sense of place and build ownership of the site. This has been an incredibly rewarding project to work upon, both in terms of the depth of engagement that I have received from the community, and in terms of the artistic freedom and support I have received. I very much look forward to the successful completion of this project in spring 2017. |
